Stilidi Ivan Sokratovich

He is a recognized leader in oncosurgery in Russia and abroad, an experienced clinician-oncologist, a universal surgeon who is excellent in all types and volumes of operations, including complex reconstructive interventions in children and adults with neoplasms of thoracoabdominal localization. He is proficient in modern videothoracolaparoscopic technologies of operating on the organs of the thoracic and abdominal cavities.

His scientific and practical activities are characterized by the variety of scientific interests: tumors of the esophagus and mediastinum, lung, primary and recurrent gastric cancer, non-organ retroperitoneal sarcomas, tumors of the great vessels, hepatopancreatoduodenal zone and adrenal glands, gastrointestinal stromal neoplasms.

The works of professor Stilidi, dedicated to the surgical treatment of patients with cancer of the intrathoracic esophagus, have gained great popularity in our country and abroad. He improved the technique of Lewis-type surgery with extended lymph node dissection and substantiated the optimal surgical approach at various levels of lesions of the intrathoracic esophagus. New approaches have been developed in the surgical treatment of patients with malignant esophageal fistula. The resectability was improved, and encouraging long-term results were obtained when using preoperative chemotherapy in patients with esophageal cancer.

He is the author of the method of splenadenoma saving gastrectomy for gastric cancer. He worked out the technical aspects of combined surgical interventions (including resection and prosthetics of the aorta and inferior cava) in patients with non-organ retroperitoneal sarcomas and adrenal tumors.

He is the author of over 320 scientific papers, two monographs ("Lung cancer", "Cancer of the esophagus"), the author of chapters in the book "Infections in Oncology" and "Encyclopedia of Clinical Oncology", the author of educational films. Doctor Stilidi has a patent for an invention. He is the doctoral supervisor of 14 dissertations defended for the degree of candidate of medical sciences and one doctoral dissertation.
